As far as designing t-shirts I would love to do some unconventional designs. Challenge Myself in figuring out how I would go about designing them, printing them etc.. If this is something I want to pursue as my FYP, will my shirts have a theme? will they be women’s? will they be mens? all things to take into consideration to get the ball rolling on my project. As I seem to be set on this idea(for now) I will continue to research more of this. As well as other visual work in general to see what sparks my imagination. Ill probably have a whole new idea by tomorrow, however, I am enjoying this stage of the project.
Hairy Baby is an online store that specialises is selling graphic print t-shirts and hoodies for men, women and children. It is an Irish owned company and it is very successful. When shopping you choose what you want your shirt to say, theres a wide range of options to choose from. Most phrases appeal to the Irish audience extremely well as they are mostly local slang.
I can take a lot of inspiration from this brand as it is very similar to what I am thinking about doing for my FYP. I think this site will be a great point of reference.
After my last post I continued to research some fashion related graphics such as logos. There are many many logos out there some are widely recognised. These are the ones of huge fashion brands across the world such ass H&M, DKNY and Armani. Then you have more unique one off brands that are less recognised and are usually in independent boutiques or on small websites.
Doing this sort of research is essential I think as I am leaning towards a fashion brand identity as my FYP. Although I am still open to other ideas and this one is certainly not set in stone. I am enjoying researching this as I have a keen interest in fashion, I do definitely feel I would enjoy doing something along these lines.
Looking through some print designs I got the idea to design some T-Shirts. Make a fictional company that sells t-shirts, come up with the entire brand identity as well as design some t-shirts. Make a website and incorporate some e-commerce where you can buy the shirts. Take on this project as if it was for a real life client. I feel I could showcase many many skills I have acquired in ITB from completing a project like this. I am currently leaning toward this idea as I feel I would quite enjoy doing something like this.
As I venture of to the island of Ibiza every summer to work I cant help but notice the fun, colourful and flamboient graphic work used to promote the super clubs. These are some of my favourite types of graphics to look at. Most of them are print based in the form of posters. each style is different than the last and there a whole lot of new poster out every single day to promote the numerous event happening on the island. This is an area I would be extremely interested in as I love everything about it from the posters to the music to the clubs. This is the sort of promotional designs I would love to be apart of and I would love to incorporate some of these crazy out of the box style work in my FYP.
As a 21 year old nowadays I like most girls love makeup. Brand Identities are always an area I have been interested in. I feel Urban Decay Cosmetics have a really good brand, logo, colour scheme etc.. It is definitely my favourite of any other makeup brand out there. I would consider doing a fictional makeup line and designing the brand behind it using graphics and a website. All my ideas thus far are quite fuzzy and I have no idea at this time what I would like to do but I am enjoying looking at all different aspects of design to help me get inspired.
I decided to broadened my horizons. I am not fully sure what I would like to do for my FYP. I am glad I researched some bits to do with my original pitch of an interactive colouring book, however, like I mentioned before I am 100% open to changing my idea. I am certain I want to work with graphics as it is what I would like to do in the future.
I began to google some graphic work, My aim was to just look at visuals and see what caught my eye. I came across an editorial illustrator on behance.net named Marina Munn. I loved the designs, they were so different to any thing I have ever created. they were extremely abstract and interesting. The designs were for numerous clients for the likes of magazines, advertising etc..
Seeing Munn’s work really inspired me to start thinking about doing something like these for my FYP
